On 16 September 1963 Chemould Gallery was inaugurated. It is one of the oldest privately- run art galleries in India.

The Gallery has been an integral part of the modernist and existing art movement in Bombay and other parts of India. Although the Gallery started functioning in 1963 but its founders Kekoo and Khorshed Gandhy have a long association with Indian contemporary art movement as it began to flourish in Bombay during the late 1940s.

The Gandhys played a vital role in providing young artists with a space to exhibit in the early years of modernist art practice in post- independence India.

In today's life they see a Chaap (print in Hindi) in every individual's life, thoughts and habits. In the current political situation in the country, they can easily forecast popular thoughts, which have been either brain washed or easily moulded.
