Filmfare Awards

Annually Bollywood hosts the Filmfare Awards ceremony. It is an event which takes as much importance on a national scale as do the Oscars on a global one.

It showcases the biggest Bollywood stars making an appearance, as well as performing to famous Bollywood tunes. The most famous awards categories are: best film, best actor, best actress, best comedian, best supporting actor and actress, best director and the life time achievement award.

There is also a critics' award, given to the most critically commended film of the year.

The awards were called 'The Clares' for the first year after name of Clare Mendionca who is a film critic. The entire film community is present at this event.

These awards are now presented in over 30 categories which include all forms of regional cinema as well. It is a star studded function full of gloss and glamour featuring some of the renowned stars of yesterday and today.
